BRYAN WYNTER (1915 -1975)

Bryan Wynter was born in London and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art between 1938-40. By 1945 he had settled in Zennor, Cornwall and was the co-founder of the Crypt Group in St. Ives. In the 1950s he taught at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham together with several other distinguished St. Ives artists. His painting style moved from a neo-romantic and landscape based art to abstraction.

His constructions of 1960, titled IMOOS, (Images Moving Out Onto Space) were made from various objects placed in a box with a parabolic mirror.

By the time of his death in 1975, Wynter was considered one of the foremost artists among the Modern British and St. Ives painters. His reputation has continued to grow to the present day.
