Editions & Originals

'Editions & Originals' ensures that new collectors are supported in their endeavour to access and collect original Works on Paper and Limited Edition Prints by the best of art by women, under the price of £1,500. The platform will feature recurrent and regular launches of new artists and artworks. After the great success of their recent solo shows, Colette LaVette and Eleanor Johnson will be the first artists to take part in the programme: LaVette with a Limited Edition Print, and Johnson with a series of Original Works on Paper.

Eleanor Johnson

Eleanor Johnson releases a new selection of original works on paper, available to the public for the first time. The collection is divided into two microseries: the studies after Old Masters (those titled after Rubens and Poussin), which are direct observations of the 16th - 17th masterworks, and the ‘Untitled’ series. The latter features a selection of works that bring together Old Master references and Contemporary imagery, in line with Johnson’s oeuvre. Each work on paper will serve as a study for large-scale canvases.

Eleanor Johnson's colourful, large-scale paintings teeter on the edge between abstraction and figuration. She plays with the dichotomy of presence and void, creating a unique balance of positive and negative spaces where biomorphic forms are captured in the process of becoming. Johnson's production shows explicit inspirations from old master paintings, evident in the choice of colour palettes, forms, and figurative elements.

Colette LaVette

Following Lavette's most recent sell-out solo show, the artist has launched a Limited Edition Print of 25 based on her painting 'Through the Bower Runs Blood, Vines Like Veins, 2023'. Each archival pigment print is on natural white 320 gsm Hannemule Pearl Paper with a glossy finish. Hand-signed and numbered by the artist.

LaVette's practice borrows attributes from Rococo aesthetic, characterised by elaborate and ornamental decorations, lightness, delicate chromatic palette and a focus on the fantastical. Mythological and folkloristic inspiration is also of major relevance to LaVette's artistic enquiry, for she is interested in scrutinising old tales to reevaluate their relevance today.
