The World I Find in Painting

Harper's BAZAAR, October 20, 2025

We are pleased to share the Harper’s Bazaar Japan feature on our represented artists Megan Baker and Milan Young. The article offers an insightful look into their artistic backgrounds and creative approaches.

Below is the English translation of the piece.

Born in 1996 in the United Kingdom, she graduated from Central Saint Martins, London. Her work explores themes of time and the quietude of nature. Through thickly layered oil paintings, she alters forms to create spaces that viewers can perceive but never fully grasp. Her paintings convey the subtle comfort found in solitude within vast landscapes, as well as the finite nature of human existence. Through the materiality of painting, she investigates the perception of time. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in the UK and internationally, and this year she has participated in exhibitions in Dubai, New York, Singapore and Istanbul.

Milan Young was born in 1997 in Maryland, USA, and is an African American artist based in Washington, D.C. she employs a method that traverses improvisation and control, drawing on the influence of Abstract Expressionism while incorporating elements of chance. Her canvases are dotted with symbolic and personal letters, dates, and fragments of phrases, creating layers of meaning and language. In her process, she repeatedly reviews and alters the surface, sometimes dismantling it entirely. Through this cycle of erasure and construction, she pursues a final composition that retains traces of the past. She has been featured in a solo booth at 1-54 Art Fair and has also participated in multiple exhibitions across the USA and UK.
