Jenya Datsko recontextualises the tradition of portraiture through a deeply introspective and poetic lens. Her ethereal compositions portray invented female figures who, while anonymous, symbolise collective resilience and emotional depth. These imagined women exist as metaphors–for solitude, for strength, and for the complex, often contradictory, dimensions of contemporary womanhood. Positioned in liminal or intimate spaces, they appear suspended in thought, their quiet presence challenging the expectation of performance in the act of being seen.

Through a soft colour palette and the recurring presence of female figures in various spaces, Jenya Datsko invites the viewer to reflect on human nature and the complexity of emotions. The artist perceives these women as symbols of strength and determination in their pursuit of establishing genuine connections.

Datsko studied Art and Illustration at the Escuela Superior de Arte y Tecnología (ESAT) and GAIA Centro de Estudios de Arte. Her work has been exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows in Madrid, New York, Shenzhen, and London. Datsko’s practice has attracted critical attention, including a feature on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in September 2023. In 2024, her work was presented at Contemporary Istanbul and Future Fair New York. In 2025, she held a solo exhibition at Gillian Jason Gallery and participated in a group exhibition in Singapore (GJG in collaboration with Art Works), as well as a solo exhibition at the Corridor Foundation in China.
