Weijue Wang’s work critically examines the intersection of female sexuality, digital culture, and societal expectations, exploring how the internet shapes and commodifies intimacy. Her practice interrogates the ways in which women’s bodies are consumed, manipulated, and constrained by the expectations embedded within digital spaces. Through the appropriation of pornographic imagery, Wang highlights the tension between autonomy and objectification, questioning how desire is shaped by algorithms and the endless circulation of online content. In an era of hypervisibility, where personal expression is both dictated and distorted by digital platforms, Wang’s work challenges the desensitisation and detachment that can emerge from the relentless consumption of sexualised imagery - with an emphasis on how this translates on expectations placed on the female body.
