Carrington produced a diverse body of work spanning painting, sculpture, writing, and theater design. Born in Lancashire, England, in 1917, Carrington spent most of her life in Mexico, where her artistic practice flourished. Whilst primarily known for her visionary paintings and Surrealist imagery, Carrington’s later years saw an increased focus on bronze sculptures, which continue to captivate audiences for their otherworldly symbolism and narrative depth.

'Mariposa Mantarraya', embodies themes central to Carrington‘s work, featuring anthropomorphic and mystical figures, merging influences from Celtic, Mexican, and Egyptian traditions.

Carrington’s late bronzes stand as evocative reflections of her boundless creativity. They offer a window into the complex dynamics of her later years, capturing the tension between innovation and the preservation of an artist’s evolving legacy. ‘After Leonora’ embraces these layers of intrigue, presenting the sculptures not only as captivating works of art but also as a celebration of Carrington’s ever-shifting artistic research.
