Fragmented reality and surrealism intertwine on the vibrant canvases of Jade Ching-yuk Ng. The interplay of modern narratives, ancient mythology, and art historical references from de Chirico to de Lempicka move throughout these works, revealing many possible readings and interpretations.

At once fragmented and unified, the couple dancing in ‘The Sweetest’ suggests another way to interpret a romantic scene that could almost be cut from a classic Hollywood movie. Movement in the painting is created through the chromatic arrangement of forms and colours. Oscillating between the male and the female, the intertwined figures transcend the boundaries of representation. Celestial yellows pulsate against dark ultramarines aglow with orange streaks, flooding the picture plane with infinite transformation and possibilities.
