Untitled - Eduardo Paolozzi - b.1924 Please scroll down for futher information. ![]() Year: c1965 Medium: chromed steel Size: 28.0 W cms Description: Untitled is one of a series of unique works in chrome plated steel executed in the 1965-7, 14 of which were exhibited at Hanover Gallery, London in 1967.
Born in Scotland of Italian parents, Paolozzi studied first at the Edinburgh College of Art and then at the Slade School of Art in London. Upon his move to Paris in 1947 he became aquainted personally with several moderm masters, including Giacometti, and also became influenced by Dada and Surrealism. Along with several others in 1952, Paolozzi formed the Independent Group, whose concerns and topics of discussion touched on anything from recent scientific and technological developments to the relevance of art. His sculptures at this time, not surprisingly, can be described as rather robotic and mechanical bronzes. But in the 1960's, his work is transformed as in, for example, a series of smooth chromed steel sculptures. This piece, Unititled is one from that series. |
